What was your first job?

My first job was through the United Way for Southeastern Michigan Campership Program. I was honored to be selected as a camp counselor, since I benefited as a camper for eight years. The Campership Program afforded access to mentorship opportunities and exposure to outdoor activities, and it cultivated an environment of self-discovery. The program provided a chance to leave my desolate neighborhood and explore the wilderness while learning the importance of healthy eating and physical activity.

Inspired to continue to serve students in Southeastern Michigan, after high school graduation I volunteered to lead youth development programming and team building initiatives through America’s Promise Alliance in partnership with United Way. In time, I became an advocate for the campership program with screening agencies by sharing my experiences as a camper, counselor and self-confidence workshop coach.
