What was your first job?
I was a summer intern on Capitol Hill for the then-governor of Delaware, Tom Carper, who was also serving as chairman of the National Governor’s Association. In addition to lunch runs, filing and answering constituent calls and letters, I had the opportunity to write research reports on key policy issues and sit in on congressional hearings. It was a great opportunity to see democracy in action, and the experience helped cultivate my love for public policy and civic engagement.
