After being in Detroit on Alternative Spring Break for under 6 hours I received terrible news that almost sent me home. My friend Mike had committed suicide. I was hours from home and coping with some of the sadness news of my life.
Immediately after processing Mike's death I had to make a decision... did I want to stay in Detroit or pack my bags and go home for his wake and his funeral.
I decided to stay here because Mike would want me to. He'd want me to finish what I started. He'd want me to help people less fortunate than me, stick it out and be a good sport.
So with the support of my team, BOOM ROASTED, I feel confident and I know I made the right decision.
I may have lost a friend back home but I gain 60+ new friends here on ASB Detroit. People who will carry on Mike's dreams of a better community for everyone.
I live UNITED because Mike did.
I'm dedicating my week here to him.
