Wayne Metro: Head Start Classroom Volunteer

Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency’s mission is to empower low-income people and strengthen communities throughout Wayne County. Volunteers in the classroom provide a positive and friendly environment that inspires children to love learning. This may include helping with arts and crafts, organizing the classroom supplies, music activities, playground supervision, assisting in clean-up activities, reading a book to the classroom, or assisting in mealtime (each class has a snack and meal served family style). This volunteer opportunity is for individuals, and can be completed on a one-time or ongoing basis at several locations throughout Wayne County.

Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday between 8 am and 3:30 p.m. (flexible scheduling). 

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Wayne Metro volunteer application and orientation
  • Criminal background check
  • TB test
  • DHHS clearance
