Take Action
Tell the House of Representatives to reauthorize the Child Nutrition Act. This law provides meals to millions of needy children, but it expires on September 30th. The Senate has already passed a bill expanding the CNA—now it’s the House’s turn.

These pieces of legislation would expand program access to reduce child hunger and improve nutritional quality to promote health and reduce childhood obesity. If passed, Congress would have the opportunity to improve access to food and meet America’s changing needs.

Why it’s important
Nearly 25 percent of Michigan households with children are threatened by hunger. These children will suffer developmentally, educationally, and financially from food insecurity.

Children need proper nutrition to foster mental and physical development. Research shows that youths who lack three meals a day have significantly lower scores in math, are more likely to repeat a grade level, and have difficulty getting along with other children.
