Thanks to advocates like you, residents of Southeastern Michigan sent nearly 600 letters to their representatives in Congress, sending a strong message about the importance of accessible, quality, affordable health care.
Together, alongside a widespread campaign conducted in conjunction with United Way Worldwide, we helped defeat the dangerously flawed American Health Care Act.
Leaders in Congress sought to bring the bill to a vote on March 24 but failed to gather enough votes to pass the bill. This plan would have made sweeping and reckless changes to our nation’s health care system. If it had passed, millions of families — including more than 800,000 people in Michigan — would have been in danger of losing their health care.
The American Health Care Act would have been a huge step in the wrong direction. We’re pleased that a majority of members in Congress — both Democrats and Republicans — stood in opposition to it.
However, our work is not done. We recognize that the Affordable Care Act is imperfect and we support any effort which seeks, in earnest, to improve the quality and affordability of health care for all Americans. This issue is greater than partisanship or politics — it's about the health and well-being of our entire community. Everyone deserves access to quality, affordable health care.
We look forward to productive discussions about the future of health care and we hope you will participate. Click here to receive policy updates on a variety of issues that affect the health and well-being of our community.
